Looking for the origins of Fenestrelle is arduous and almost impossible, since they are covered by the darkness of twenty centuries and they get Iost at the beginning of time. It remained under their control until 1191 when it passed to the Dolphin of Vienna that governed until 1349. Then the country was under the French domination until 1713, the year of the Treaty of Utrecht. Beyond the military tights, there were other terrible fights: before, the religions war between Valdesi and Catholics and then between Reformed and Catholics. After the year 1713 Fenestrelle was assigned to the Duke of Savoia Vittorio Amedeo Il who, considering the strategic importance of the country, decided to build the imposing Fortress of Fenestrelle as deterrent to the French incursions.
